This piece can be seen many different ways. For myself, in this piece that empty tubes of color signify the souls of those who have departed. They’ve used all their color. Everything they had in them. Now when you look beside them you can see skyscrapers and houses. Beneath the skyscrapers are cowries – money. Now those signify wealth, they signify riches. What else should I call them? Earthly pleasures. I painted this piece to help me remember that when one dies, he leaves the earth alone. Sometimes we feel a lot of pressure to own nice things, and work hard for cars and clothes and things for the house. It’s good to remember on a regular basis that we don’t get to keep them! We shouldn’t stress. From dust we come and to dust we shall return. That is all.
