The painting was performed from nature in an archaeological expedition at the excavations of the ancient city of Hermonas in Taman. In the fifth century BC on the site of the village was the ancient Greek city of Hermonass, with Phanagoria being part of the Bosporus kingdom. He stood there for almost eight centuries and fell, destroyed by nomadic tribes. Part of the city went under the water
