The Triptych of the Muses

The Triptych form was chosen because of the Belgian origin of the photographer. Famous Flemish artists of the Middle-Ages painted their artwork on three panels depicting religious subjects. The etymology of Triptych is from the ancient Greek triptukhos, “consisting of three layers, threefold”. It is rare to find a similar approach in modern art. The Kintsugi technique found in this Triptych is to illustrate the healing, bond and preservation of the history of the subject. Kintsugi is the Japanese art of golden repair. As a philosophy, it treats breakage and repair as part of the history of an object, rather than something to disguise. The artist wanted to preserve and repair for eternity something that was broken in the soul of each woman by using the gold lacquer as an illuminated seam of cure. The vicissitudes of existence over time, to which all humans are susceptible, could not be clearer than in the breaks and shattering. Here the sadness and anxiety expressed by each woman is rejected by the golden lines of respect and admiration.
